The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is a unique and innovative programme of the African Union. It is an instrument voluntarily acceded to by member states of the African Union (AU) as an African-based self-monitoring mechanism. The primary purpose of the APRM is to foster the adoption of policies, standards and practices that lead to human security and political stability, high economic growth, sustainable development, and accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration.
Assessment under the APRM is conducted within the framework of agreed values, codes and standards as contained in the Declaration on Democracy, Political, Economic and Corporate Governance. A country’s performance is assessed under four substantive thematic areas: Democracy and Good Political Governance; Economic Governance and Management; Corporate Governance; and Socio-Economic Development.
Since its inception in 2003, the APRM has recorded a modicum of success. As an initiative created, owned and driven by Africans; the Mechanism is a groundbreaking, and a self-introspection tool that has generated an expectation for Africa to tackle the governance problems. It represents a bold new approach to reform governance in Africa as well as the most visible measure of the progress of African states adopting norms of good governance and sound economic policies.
The APR Secretariat located in Midrand, South Africa, is seeking to employ suitably qualified persons for the following positions:
Applicants should include :
a) A motivation letter and comprehensive curriculum vitae.
b) Three referees with full contact details, telephone, fax and email addresses.
